GRANT COUNTY, Wash. — Grant County Health District (GCHD) is responding to a significant increase in whooping cough cases.
According to the Grant County Health District, since June, 28 cases have been reported, primarily linked to Slavic churches in Moses Lake and Soap Lake. Most affected individuals are unvaccinated or not up to date with their vaccinations.
GCHD advises residents to get vaccinated, stay home if sick, and consult healthcare providers if symptoms appear. For more information or to report cases, contact GCHD at (509) 766-7960.
Whooping Cough is highly contagious, especially dangerous for infants, and is spread through coughing. Symptoms include a runny nose, mild cough, and severe coughing fits with a “whoop” sound. Vaccination with DTaP (for children) and Tdap (for older individuals and pregnant people) is recommended.
