MONTANA – The great state of Montana is celebrating its 135th birthday, marking the anniversary of its statehood on November 8, 1889, when it officially became the 41st state of the United States.

Montana, known for its vast landscapes, is the fourth largest state in the country, covering 147,000 square miles. The state has a rich history and unique characteristics that make it special.

In 2023, the Huckleberry was designated as the state fruit, thanks to House Bill 880. This addition highlights Montana’s natural bounty and local flavors.

Montana is also home to the world’s shortest river, the Roe River in Great Falls, which measures just 200 feet in length. This quirky fact adds to the state’s charm and uniqueness.

Often referred to by names such as Big Sky Country, the Treasure State, and the Last Best Place, Montana holds a special place in the hearts of its residents and visitors alike.

As Montana celebrates this milestone, it’s a time to reflect on its rich history and the pride its people have for their state.

Happy birthday, Montana!
