Hawks attacking people walking in certain areas Pullman

PULLMAN, Wash. – Hawks have been swooping low and clawing at people in Pullman according to the local police department.

Multiple reports of clawing hawks have been made to the department in the area of Bishop Boulevard between Footloose Drive and Fancy Free Drive.

“One person reported minor injuries from a hawk that clawed their head. The injuries were superficial and did not require medical attention,” the department said.

WSU veterinarians are helping Pullman police identify the kind of hawks involved in the attacks.

“The hawks are likely a migratory Swainson’s Hawk. If so, they would fall under the jurisdiction of U.S. Fish and Wildlife,” the department said.

Hawks are not typically aggressive, but can exhibit protective behavior around their nests.
