Hayden man arrested for stealing canoes in two separate incidents

HAYDEN LAKE, Idaho — A Hayden man was arrested after allegedly stealing a canoe from a nearby home in Hayden Lake and then paddling to steal another canoe.

According to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a stolen bicycle at a residence along the shores of Hayden Lake on Wednesday around 7:30 a.m. When deputies confronted the suspect, identified as 40-year-old Ryan Irwin, he falsely claimed to be fleeing from police.

Deputies reported that Irwin then stole a canoe from a nearby home, paddled to another location, and stole yet another canoe. Kootenai County Marine Deputies responded via watercraft and located Irwin, who attempted to flee when instructed to stop. He was subsequently arrested on charges of grand theft and resisting arrest.
