Hayden man convicted of sexual battery, sentenced to 15 years in prison

HAYDEN, Idaho – A man was convicted of aggravated battery and sexual battery after he groped his female roommate.

According to a press release from the Kootenai County prosecutor’s office, Walter William Bell, 42, was found guilty of using his fingers to forcibly penetrate his female roommate while she slept at their shared residence. According to the press release, the victim, who had taken NyQuil given by Bell, awoke in the middle of the night to find Bell in her bed. She kicked Bell and demanded he leave.

“Don’t you want to cuddle?” Bell asked before eventually leaving after repeated demands.

Bell has a criminal history including possession of a controlled substance, disturbing the peace, and multiple DUIs. Bell was convicted of aggravated battery and sexual battery.

On Wednesday, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison with parole eligibility after six years.

Bell could return to court within the year for a review hearing where his probation will be decided.
