SNAKE RIVER, Wash. — Whitman County Public Health has lifted the health advisory for toxic algae on the Snake River.
According to a press release from the agency, the advisory was lifted for the section of the river from Nisqually John Landing to Little Goose Dam.
This decision follows two consecutive water samples taken one week apart that tested below the state advisory level for toxins. The health advisory had been issued on Aug. 16 after a sample from the Snake River indicated the presence of microcystins, a type of toxic algae known to produce potent liver toxins.
