Home repair help in Spokane for low-income families as winter nears

SPOKANE, Wash. – As winter approaches, Spokane residents are reminded of available home repair assistance programs for low-income families. The City of Spokane and SNAP offer three programs: Essential Home Repair, Single Family Home Rehabilitation, and Utility Pipe Rehabilitation.

The Essential Home Repair program aids homeowners with repairs that address health or safety hazards, such as lack of heat or water. Homeowners can receive direct repairs or grants of up to $6,000 for issues like furnace tune-ups, window repairs, and ADA modifications. Questions can be directed to 509-456-7627.

For larger projects, the Single Family Rehabilitation program provides low-interest loans ranging from $10,000 to $50,000. This program covers roof repair, sewer repair, and other major rehabilitation work. SNAP manages the project, while the City of Spokane’s Community, Housing and Human Services Department services the loan. Call 509-319-3080 for more information.

The Utility Pipe Rehabilitation program offers low-interest loans for repairing or replacing damaged water and sewer lines. Eligible property owners can apply, and loan repayments are included in monthly utility bills.
