SPOKANE, Wash. – A man was arrested after he allegedly broke into a woman’s apartment, noticed her security camera, and then ran from police.

Ian I. Tanner, 43, was caught on a home security camera breaking into a woman’s apartment near East Buckey Avenue and North Custer Road. The camera showed Tanner noticing the camera covering his face with a sweatshirt and quickly leaving.

The woman who was not home at the time of the break-in notified police of the activity and detectives began investigating.

When police arrived at the apartment, they collected evidence and did not find Tanner in the area. Through further investigating and with help from the apartment complex police were able to identify Tanner.

A few days later police learned that Tanner was driving a green Jeep and would be arriving near 5200 block of E. Sprague later in the afternoon.

Police located Tanner’s Jeep that same afternoon and pulled him over. Tanner initially complied with police by showing his hands and exiting the car.

Suddenly Tanner decided to run from police across Sprague Avenue and was almost hit by a car. Police were able to quickly catch up with Tanner and arrested him without incident.

Tanner, with multiple past felony convictions, had previously been released on bond for separate charges of identity theft, theft, and possession of stolen property.

His bond is now set at $20,000, and additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.
