Hoopfest is on the horizon. Here’s some ideas for how to prepare snacks for your children’s teams

SPOKANE, Wash. – Hoopfest is just a month away, and lots of young people are preparing to play in the Lilac City’s iconic three-on-three basketball tournament. Here’s some ideas for snacks to pack for the weekend.

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) School Nutrition Standards are a helpful resource for planning snacks for children.

While snacks with added sugar like fruit snacks are easy to throw in a backpack and go, the USDA encourages parents to avoid added sugars. Actual fruits like oranges and apples provide a similar boost of energy. Bagged veggies are also a great choice.

Staying hydrated in the June heat is also important. While Gatorade and soda are great, your family should pack several bottles of actual water before considering other liquids.
