Hoopfest prepares to take over downtown Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. – Somewhere in Spokane County, the 2024 Hoopfest backboards are sitting and waiting to get taken to downtown Spokane Wednesday night, their final placement before getting thrown into action late Friday.

“Once we close the streets at 6pm and really start building our site around 6:30-7, (the courts will) go up in about 3 hours,” Hoopfest Executive Director Riley Stockton said. “That’s part of the magic about what Hoopfest is, the fact that all of our volunteers, our site people, can put up the courts, tape the courts in three hours.”

This year, there will be 373 courts in downtown Spokane, hosting about 18,500 players across over 4,700 teams. Those numbers are around a 15% improvement on 2023, the largest the event has been this decade.
