Hoopfest Toyota Shootout changing lives

“Winning this car is a life changing experience. Stuff that won’t believe that will happen to you,” Gary Craig said.

Cory Craig, an Omak, WA resident and his family needed a break.

“It’s still hard to believe.”

It’s been a tough 100 days. Their baby was born premature and was receiving care in Spokane, but Craig and his wife live in Omak.

They’ve been making the nearly three hour trip over and over and over, and their car wasn’t doing well.

“It started breaking down. The window wouldn’t roll up. It started raining half way here. I have a newborn baby in the backseat, so I had to put the hazards on and pull over,” Craig recalled.

And so how do you get a new car?

You shoot for it.

Craig took part in the Hoopfest Toyota Shootoff that you probably saw if you were down at the two day last month.

And maybe you wondered who took home the grand prize. Well wonder no more – it was Cory Craig, winning a brand new Toyota RAV4, donated by Findlay Toyota.

“Went to a great family, so we’re super excited. Again, it’s one of the best days on the job here,” Hoopfest Executive Director Riley Stockton said.

He says when he heard the Craig’s story he had to make sure others did too.

For Craig and his family, it’s not a game changer, it’s a life changer.

“This will change my life. I have a 3 month baby. This is going to be his car, I promise you that,” Craig said.

And it’s because of the kind people of Spokane, who’ve created an event that, as you heard it, changes lives.

“Gosh I’ve been playing Hoopfest since I was a little kid. I will come for the rest of my life, not just because of the car, but for basketball,” Craig said.

A simple ball and a basket, bringing a family pure bliss.

“I wouldn’t think that this was going to come true. So, I give the upmost love and respect to him, and to Hoopfest, to Riley for making this all happen,” Craig said.
