MOSCOW, Idaho – The City of Moscow Fire Department (MFD) responded to a house fire on Wednesday that they believe was started by fireworks not being thrown away properly.

Just before midnight on July 3, firefighters responded to 411 North Almon Street for reports of flames and smoke.

Firefighters found that the front and underside of the house were engulfed in flames and began attacking the fire.

Two children and one adult were home at the time and were evacuated by firefighters after they attempted to put out the fire themselves.

MFD was able to knock down the fire without further damage and only the underside and 1st floor bedroom were affected.

The fire is under investigation, but MFD said preliminary information shows that fireworks not disposed properly in a nearby trash can started the fire.

Two firefighters were injured during the incident and their conditions are unknown.

The house was deemed unlivable due to the damage and all three occupants of the house were displaced. The American Red Cross has stepped in to help support them.
