Hunter airlifted to hospital after rescue mission in Madison County

MELROSE, Mont. – The Butte-Silver Bow Fire Department recently led a rescue mission in Madison County, south of Melrose, to save an injured hunter.

The incident occurred at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday when the fire department received a call about the hunter, who was unable to descend the mountain on their own.

The fire department utilized UTV 1 to transport the patient to a designated landing zone. Subsequently, the patient was airlifted to a local hospital by helicopter.

The Butte-Silver Bow Fire Department emphasized the importance of being prepared while in remote areas.

“The incident was an example of how extremely important it is to know the area you will be recreating in, somebody who knows where you are going to be and most importantly a phone or GPS so you can call for help with your coordinates,” the department said in a release.
