WOLF CREEK, Mont. – Construction on Interstate 15 in Wolf Creek has paused for the winter, according to the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Riverside Contracting Inc. Work is set to resume in 2025 when crews will apply a seal and cover, also known as a chip seal, to the roadway.
The project began in 2023, focusing on rehabilitating approximately 8 miles of the southbound lanes through Wolf Creek Canyon. In 2024, work shifted to the northbound lanes, adjacent ramps, pullouts, and crossroads.
This year, crews completed several tasks, including adding roadside markers, replacing right-of-way fencing and cattle guards, and adding new pavement markings. They also lined and repaired culverts, improved erosion control features, upgraded storm drainage, and updated curb ramps in Wolf Creek. Additionally, they upgraded concrete barrier rails, metal guardrails, and signage.
When construction resumes in 2025, traffic control will be reinstated in the area. The contractor does not expect crossover traffic patterns or interstate closures for oversized loads during this phase.
