MONTANA – The governors of Idaho and Montana are urging Congress to pass the updated farm bill. Governor Brad Little of Idaho and Governor Greg Gianforte of Montana have expressed concern over the delay in passing the bill and have sent a letter to Congress.
Governor Little emphasized the importance of domestic agricultural production, stating, “Domestic agricultural production is a matter of national security. If a country can’t feed itself, fuel itself, or fight for itself, then it cannot survive. It is imperative that the United States not become dependent on other countries for our food supply.”
The most recent farm bill, approved early in President-elect Donald Trump’s first term, expired in September. One of the issues affecting its passage is funding for food stamps.
