BOISE, Idaho – The US Forest Service announced a $1 million investment in wildfire resilience for the Idaho Panhandle National Forest on Tuesday.
As the climate emergency continues to cause more intense wildfire seasons, the new Forest Service funding will coordinate fuel reduction efforts across public and privately owned land. Deputy Regional Forester Tim Garcia touted the funding as a win for the National Forest system.
“The continuation of this successful partnership will ensure a healthier future for our National Forests and communities that are more resilient to wildfire,” Garcia said.
Fuel reduction work will focus on areas where residential and forest areas meet according to Idaho State Forster Craig Foss.
“This work is vital to help decrease the risk of catastrophic wildfire to adjacent forests, homes, and nearby towns,” Foss said.
