IDAHO – The state of Idaho announced it will send firefighting teams to assist with the wildfires burning in Southern California, including teams from the Northern Lakes Fire Protection District.
According to a press release from the Idaho Office of Emergency Management, the deployment comes in response to a request from the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. Idaho will send firefighting teams from across the state, including local teams like the Northern Lakes Fire Protection District, which will be part of five Idaho strike teams supporting firefighting efforts on the ground.
Northern Lakes Fire Chief Riley said this deployment will not impact staffing or emergency response capabilities within the fire district.
The fires, which began in Southern California’s Palisades area near Brentwood and the Eaton Fire near Pasadena, continue to threaten multiple communities and critical infrastructure, forcing evacuations. At least five people have died, .
