BOISE, Idaho – Idaho State Police troopers are on their way to the U.S. southern border for the fourth time this year. Governor Brad Little announced that the troopers left Idaho yesterday and will remain in Texas until mid-December.
Governor Little has promoted this initiative as a mutually beneficial program. It aims to train Idaho troopers while assisting Texas in its efforts to combat drug and human trafficking across the border with Mexico.
The program began in May 2023, during a period when the U.S. experienced a surge in encounters with individuals who had entered the country illegally.
According to U.S. Border Patrol, encounters with people entering the country illegally have significantly decreased in 2024. In September, the number of encounters fell to 140,000, marking the lowest level in the last three years.
