BOISE, Idaho – Idaho State Rep. Sue Chew (D), a pharmacist and eight-term representative for her district, has died.
Chew’s death was announced in separate statements by the Idaho Democratic Party and Governor Brad Little (R) on Thursday.
Idaho Democratic Party Chair Lauren Necochea emphasized Chew’s commitment to inclusivity.
“Sue Chew was known for her moral clarity and huge heart for the people at risk of being left behind. She was deeply committed to inclusive representation and was a tireless door-knocker, always keeping in touch with her constituents and their needs,” Necochea said.
Little focused on Chew’s long tenure in the Idaho State House and declared flags to be lowered to half-staff until Friday.
“Representative Sue Chew was one of the state’s longest serving current members of the Idaho Legislature, and she served her constituents in Boise’s District 17 with passion and dedication,” Little said.
Chew was a pharmacist with degrees from UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco who served as a representative for the Ada County from 2006 until her death. Healthcare and environmental issues were her main areas of policy focus.
