BOISE, Idaho – US Attorney for the District of Idaho Josh Hurwit announced an election complaints program Tuesday ahead of the Nov. 5 election. The program will prosecute anyone who threatens a pollster or election worker, and anyone who attempts to commit election fraud.

Hurwit is one of a large cohort of US Attorneys who will coordinate with the Justice Department and local law enforcement to ensure a free and fair election.

“The right to vote is the cornerstone of American democracy…We all must ensure that those who are entitled to the franchise can exercise it if they choose, and that those who seek to corrupt it are brought to justice,” Hurwit said in a written statement.

Threats against election workers increased in 2020 amidst unsubstantiated claims from former President Donald Trump (R) that the election would be stolen,

Regardless of political affiliation, Hurwit is committed to ensuring that every citizen can vote if they so choose.

“Ensuring free and fair elections depends in large part on the assistance of the American electorate. It is important that those who have specific information about voting rights concerns or election fraud make that information available to the Department of Justice,” Hurwit said.

If you are concerned that your right to vote may have been infringed, you can call the Salt Lake City FBI field office at (801) 579-1400.
