MOSCOW, Idaho — The University of Idaho (U of I) Vandals plans to offer their games in Spanish, becoming the first to do so in the Pacific Northwest.
People watching the games will have the opinion to listen to the football games in English or Spanish.
“We want Vandal Football for all,” said Jerek Wolcott, the Assistant Athletic Director from Brand Engagement and Digital Strategy at U of I. “We’re not going to ignore 15% of the population.”
According to Wolcott, U of I is partnering with a Boise-based Spanish radio station to turn the idea into a reality. The translated games are not only to attract more U of I fans but to recruit more Hispanic students who are a part of the over 200,000 Hispanic heritage population living in Idaho.
