The Garland Business District will host its very first winter holiday event WINTER WONDERLAND ON GARLAND Saturday, December 16th, from 10:30am-4pm. The festivities will commence all along Garland Street, located in between Mary Lou’s Milk Bottle and North Monroe Street. Featuring movie showings, live music, great local shopping, comedy sketches, cozy holiday drinks, and an exciting visit from ‘ole Saint Nick himself – this event is just the ticket to find jolly, holiday spirit! In efforts to spread extra cheer, a portion of event proceeds will be given to a designated charity each year – this year being The Foster Parent Association of WA. The Garland District invites neighbors and the entire Spokane community to come join in celebration together in hopes to make this the first of a cherished tradition to look forward to year after year!
Kicking off the event at 10:30am at the Garland Theater is a FREE showing of holiday favorite RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED REINDEER. Guests and families are invited to cozy up with some popcorn and enjoy. Special 2017 Event Mugs featuring a unique and collectible design will be available for purchase with proceeds going to charity. Guests can sip on their complimentary hot cocoa and cider mug refills (free) supplied by participating local vendors and are encouraged to browse the unique, one-of-a-kind selection of goods each local Garland Shop has to offer. Christmas music and live caroling performed by Glover Middle School can be heard at 11am as guests walk up and down the Winter Wonderland.
Various discounts and specials will be offered by favorite local shops throughout the event. These specials will be advertised on store windows and on the custom event map guests will receive as they enter the event. The Blue Door Comedy Club will put on two family-friendly comedy shows at 1pm and 2pm. Each show will be collecting contributions at the door – all proceeds will go towards The Foster Parent Association of WA. The Garland Theatre will hold its second movie showing at 12pm, featuring the classic film HOME ALONE. Tickets will be a discounted $2.50, with $1 of these proceeds benefiting the charity.
A booth will be set up from 11am-3pm in efforts to represent and inform guests about the selected charity organization – The Foster Parent Association of WA. A representative from the organization as well as guest speaker will give their personal testament towards what good the money raised during the event will go towards. This booth will likely be located at the center of the event. To wrap up festivities, Santa will come to town, accompanied by the Spokane Valley Firefirthers Local 876. Children and their families will have the opportunity to meet and greet with Santa at the Garland Drinkery and snap a few family photos with their cameras.
