SPOKANE, Wash. – An inmate was arrested for allegedly setting a fire in the bathroom at Geiger Corrections Center.

According to court documents, on Wednesday at around 1:20 a.m., deputies responded to a potential arson fire at the facility. They observed Roscoe, an inmate, on camera footage entering a bathroom on the third floor, shortly before smoke was seen coming from the bathroom door.

Three officers were injured during the incident due to smoke inhalation, while Roscoe was transported to a hospital for evaluation due to low oxygen levels.

During their investigation, deputies found burned items and a charred battery from a jail-issued tablet. They also discovered a 5-inch wire with burned ends, which is commonly used by inmates to bypass electronics and create sparks to ignite items.

Upon searching Roscoe, deputies found a similar wire and a tobacco product. During an interview, he claimed, “I didn’t do anything.”

Deputies determined they had probable cause to arrest Roscoe for first-degree arson. He will be booked into a new facility for this charge.
