PULLMAN, Wash. – An investigation is ongoing in Pullman after a man was found dead inside a burned building.
Firefighters responded to a call around 7:00 a.m. to a building on Northeast Maple Street in the College Hill area. A neighbor reported smelling burning plastic and seeing smoke.
Firefighters noted that the damage to the building is extensive. However, they managed to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby apartment buildings.
Fire investigators are working with city building inspectors to determine if the structure was an approved residence.
They noted that a power line was connected to a nearby apartment, and an electric meter was attached to the damaged building.
While the victim’s identity has not been released, it has been confirmed that the person is not of college age and is not affiliated with the university.
Coroner Annie Miller will be responsible for releasing the victim’s name and determining the cause of death.
