OLYMPIA, Wash. – After 12 years in office, Jay Inslee spoke to reporters in Olympia for the last time, reflecting on his three terms as governor. While expressing pride in his accomplishments, Inslee acknowledged there is still much to be done.
Inslee stated he is leaving office with more confidence than when he began. He highlighted several successes during his tenure, including the long-term care plan, clean energy policies, and paid family leave.
Responding to critiques from Republicans about reckless spending, Inslee emphasized, “Our budgets were balanced, and they continue balanced, and we are paying the rent we’re on the course.”
Looking ahead, Inslee identified the wealth gap as one of the state’s greatest challenges. “The economy continues to generate enormous amounts of wealth and increasing levels of poverty,” he said.
Inslee concluded by emphasizing the importance of maintaining the vision of Washingtonians as a constant moving forward.
