POST FALLS, Idaho – A Kootenai County deputy shot and killed two dogs after one attacked him in Post Falls on Monarch Avenue.
According to a press release from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred Wednesday at around 8 a.m. The deputy arrived at a home in Monarch Avenue to deliver court paperwork and was aware of the dogs’ aggressive behavior and approached the home cautiously.
Deputies said that when the homeowner opened the door, the two dogs charged at the deputy. One of the dogs bit the deputy’s leg. The deputy then pulled his gun and shot the attacking dog. He also shot the second dog, stating it was being aggressive toward him. Both dogs later died from the gunfire.
The deputy was taken to the hospital and received treatment for minor wounds from the dog bite. The dog owner was not charged with any crimes related to the incident, the press release stated.
The Post Falls Police Department and Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the incident.
