KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho — An alert sent to many residents of Kootenai County on Monday was a scam and did not come from the sheriff’s office.
The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the alert read “Kootenai Sheriff Alert” and was sent around 9 a.m. on May 20. KCSO said this alert was not sent by law enforcement.
According to KCSO, this constitutes impersonation of the sheriff and the sheriff’s office and is under investigation.
“The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office also wants to clarify that any reference to ‘Kootenai Sheriff Alert’ in the context of any political activity is not an official communication from this office,” KCSO said.
If you received this alert or receive one in the future, dismiss it entirely.
