Level 3(Go Now!) evacuations issued for Swailla Fire

KELLER, Wash. – Level 3 (Go Now) evacuation orders have been issued for the Swawilla Fire near Keller.

Update 9:41 p.m. July 19 – Evacuations orders have been upgraded for the 1,440 acre Swailla Fire near Keller.

The evacuation orders have been issued for these areas:

Level 3 (Go Now): 1 mile north of the North line of Township (T28N R32E), Intersection of Swawilla Basin Road to Lake Roosevelt. Keller Ferry, north along Highway 21 to the north township line.Level 2 (Get Set): Manila Creek Road, between Swawilla Basin Road and Highway 21. Swawilla Basin Road to 1 mile north of the south line of Township (T29N R32E), to Highway 21.

Level 3 evacuations mean there is an immediate threat to your safety—you need to leave NOW. Emergency services may not be able to assist you. Remember to bring your pets with you. If you have pets and/or livestock, and need help evacuating them, please call 911. You will not be allowed to return until conditions are safe

Update July 19 6 p.m. – According to fire officials, the Swawilla Basin Road is closed except to local residences.

Evacuation orders have been issued to the following areas:

Level 2 (Get Set): North line of Township (T28N R32E), Intersection of Swawilla Basin Road to Lake Roosevelt. Keller Ferry, north along Highway 21 to the north township line. Level 1 (Get Ready): Manila Creek Road, between Swawilla Basin Road and Highway 21. Swawilla Basin Road is on the south line of Township (T29N R32E) to Highway 21.

The Swawilla Fire was started d by lightning on July 17, according to firefighters. The fire is located 10 miles southwest of Keller and roughly estimated at 1,440 acres and is 0% contained.

Another nearby fire, the Owhi fire, was located 7 miles northeast of Nespelem and is roughly estimated to be 88 acres. Its progression stopped on July 18.

Fire crews are working to strengthen firelines and work on containments.

The Colville Tribes Emergency Management has also opened an Evacuation Center at the Keller Senior Meal site, located at 7 Jim James Rd, Keller, WA 99140.

Level 1 and 2 evacuations mean:

Level 1: Evacuation or protection alert

A wildfire threat is in your area. It would be wise to consider planning and/or packing, in the event an evacuation becomes necessary.

Level 2: Evacuation warning or notice.

High probability of a need to evacuate. You should prepare now by packing the necessary items and preparing your family, pets, and vehicle for potential departure
