SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane County Fire District was less than one percent shy from passing a levy that failed after passing for nearly three decades.
The levy hoping to increase property taxes for people living in the district by 14% to cover help part of the district’s budget.
Voting on the levy began on Tuesday and results showed that 59.07% voted in favor and 40.92% voted against.
The levy needed a supermajority vote of 60% for it to pass meaning it was 0.93% shy of passing.
The levy proposed to increase around 18 cents per $1000 of assessed property value which would total to around $72 for an average priced home in Spokane of $400,000.
