LEWISTON, Idaho – A Lewiston man has been found guilty of making violent threats, including plans for mass murder and school shootings in eastern Washington.
Trevor J. Lunney, 39, was convicted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Washington.
In July 2022, while on community custody for previous threats, Lunney informed his community corrections officer about plans for violence.
These included threats of a school shooting and a parade attack in Asotin. After being contacted by officers, Lunney continued to make specific threats and was arrested by Clarkston Police.
While in custody, Lunney expressed anger towards the justice system and detailed plans for mass violence upon his release.
In Dec. 2022, he threatened to kill his lawyer and prosecutors through monitored email he sent from prison.
Lunney was convicted, and his sentencing is scheduled for March 13, 2025.
U.S. Attorney Vanessa Waldref emphasized the significance of the verdict, stating it is crucial for public safety and addressing Lunney’s mental health needs.
“Mr. Lunney made terrifying threats to commit violence to include murdering his lawyer, the Asotin County Prosecutor, and plans to carry out a mass shooting targeting people at public events and children attending school,” stated U.S. Attorney Waldref. “The verdict announced today will keep Mr. Lunney in prison and will hopefully allow him to get the mental health treatment he needs.”
