SPOKANE, Wash. – The downtown Spokane Pride mural by Riverfront Park was repainted Tuesday, just days before the Spokane Pride Festival this weekend.

After the mural was defaced by an arsonist who has yet to be apprehended by Spokane police on May 16, Democratic city leaders quickly denounced the anti-LGBTQ+ vandalism.

A bill designating the defacement of public installations with the intent of intimidating a protected group a hate crime will go into effect June 6.

Fundraising to repaint the mural ahead of Pride Month, which is not funded by taxpayers, was reached just days after the arson. In addition to the mural being repainted, additional security measures have been implemented near the mural.
