INCHELIUM, Wash. – A 12-16 acre was started after lighting struck an area of forest in the Colville Reservation.
The Middle Mountain Fire, ignited by lightning, has scorched 12-16 acres of forest approximately 13 miles south of Inchelium, reports the Northeast Washington Interagency Incident Management team.
Initially confined to a remote area, firefighting crews tackled the fire on steep terrain on July 4 when it spanned 2 acres. On July 5-6, the fire breached containment lines, likely due to rolling burning debris rapidly expanding in size.
Currently, crews are actively containing and fortifying the fire lines. No evacuations or road closures are in effect, but residents are urged to remain vigilant and cautious amid hot and dry weather conditions.
