SPOKANE, Wash. – Many Spokane residents have been curious about the white silo being built on Division Street. This weekend, the mystery will be revealed as a local Spokane woman opens a brand-new coffee stand, BRU Coffee Hause.
BRU Coffee Hause is North Spokane’s newest drive-thru coffee stand, owned by Sigrid Houske, a Mt. Spokane High School graduate.
Houske, 27, has faced unique challenges as a female entrepreneur while opening her first business.
The eye-catching white silo, which has intrigued many locals over the past few months, was built from the ground up by Houske.
The official opening day is Aug. 3, and Houske hopes her hard work and passion will keep customers coming back.
To celebrate the opening, they will be serving free coffee on Aug. 3 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., and will remain open until 2 p.m.
As a young female business owner, Houske encountered challenges, with some contractors even stating her attorneys advised her to give up and declare bankruptcy.
“They told me, ‘Stay in your lane, you’re a girl and don’t know what you’re talking about,'” Houske said.
Despite these obstacles, she persevered. “I didn’t give up. I cut 90% of expenses, saved, invested, worked three jobs, and committed to my dream,” she explained.
Houske attributes BRU Coffee Hause’s success to her determination, passion and the support of friends and family.
“BRU is a brand that allows everyone to believe in themselves when nobody else does,” she said. Now, Houske hopes the community she grew up in will believe in her and support her new endeavor.
