Lopsided fight to fill Feinstein’s Senate seat in liberal California favors Democrat Schiff

LOS ANGELES (AP) — California voters are filling the U.S. Senate seat long held by the late Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein. Democratic U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff and Republican former baseball star Steve Garvey are contending for the coveted seat, which Feinstein held for decades. Control of the Senate is in play this year. But Democrats are favored to easily hold this seat in liberal-leaning California, where a Republican hasn’t won a Senate race since 1988. Still, the campaign represents a turning point in state politics, which was long dominated by Feinstein, former U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer and other veteran Democrats. Feinstein died last year at 90.
