OLYMPIA, Wash. – Washington State Representative Jacquelin Maycumber sent a cease and desist letter to former Republic police chief and gubernatorial candidate Loren Culp on Monday. The letter alleges that Culp posted fake quotes which he attributed to Maycumber on social media.
The cease and desist letter which was shared with the media by Maycumber on Monday claims that Culp has repeatedly propagated fake tweets from the representative.
“In several posts you included an image you incorrectly claim Ms. Maycumber ‘Tweeted’, on October 21, 2020, encouraging Republicans to vote for Joe Biden…The image…is a complete fabrication. Our client wants to be perfectly clear; Jacquelin Maycumber has never supported Mr. Biden,” the letter states.
Maycumber’s legal team at Possinger Law Group demanded that the posts be rescinded and that Culp apologize on social media before Thursday. It does not appear that Culp is interested in pursuing that path based upon a Tuesday evening tweet.
“BRING ON THE LAWYERS!! I was contacted by two different reporters asking if I wanted to comment on the RINO @jaquelinemaycum hiring a lawyer to sue me over some retweet I did last month…and if I get served legal papers you will hear about it, guaranteed. What a joke,” Culp said.
Culp has waded into controversy via social media several times in recent months. He is currently at risk of being expelled from the Washington State Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs due to allegedly defamatory statements.
A March 2 Culp post calling Maycumber a sexist slur drew particularly strong drawbacks from fellow Washington Republicans.
It is unclear as of the publishing of this article whether civil litigation will be filed against Culp later this week.
