Man accused of absconding to Mexico with daughter charged with parental kidnapping

PULLMAN, Wash. – Aaron Aung, the Pullman man accused of in early June and instead is facing a kidnapping charge.

According to documents filed with the US District Court for the Eastern District of Washington, Aung has been charged with intentional parental kidnapping.

It is a violation of federal law to fail to return a child to their parent of primary custody, even if the offender is also a parent of the child. The federal suit against Aung alleges that he knowingly fled the county with his daughter in spite of Samara Harmon, the 2-year-old’s mother.

“The parenting plan that was established by the…State of Idaho determined that [their daughter] was to spend alternating weeks with her mother Samara and her father,” court documents said.

Harmon alleged that Aung failed to pay child support and had been abusive, which the court documents say could have been an important factor in the alleged kidnapping.

“Samara was currently in the process…to criminally charge Aung for not paying support,” court documents said.

The documents mirror alleging that Aung fled with his fiancé Nadia Cole before driving to Mexico.

Aung was and sent back to the United States by US Customs and Border Protection, where he currently awaits trial.
