SPOKANE, Wash. – A Spokane man accused of murdering his wife and placing her body in the family freezer in 2019 before fleeing to the Netherlands was extradited back to the US and booked into Spokane County Jail Thursday.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, Wahid Kashify is facing a first degree murder charge for allegedly killing his wife Arezu Kashify in June of 2019 and crudely disposing of her body before flying to the Netherlands.

“On June 4, 2019, the body of the victim, Arezu Kashify, Wahid’s wife, was found beneath a false bottom inside a freezer in the residence they shared with their young children,” the sheriff’s office said.

Kashify was arrested in the Netherlands in Oct. 2022 and has been imprisoned there since while American and Dutch authorities coordinated his return to Spokane County to face trial.

“Despite seemingly insurmountable obstacles, including a worldwide search and a lengthy extradition process, we are now at a point where the man accused of murdering Arezu Kashify will stand trial in Spokane County Superior Court,” the sheriff’s office said.

Kashify was booked into Spokane County Jail Thursday afternoon on a $1 million bond.
