SPOKANE, Wash. — The suspect in a in Liberty Lake is no longer facing a rape charge at this time.
The suspect, Michael Martinez, is still in the Spokane County Jail and is facing charges in a separate case: a vehicle theft.
On July 12, according to court documents, Martinez forced a 17-year-old girl into a park bathroom and raped her. He was arrested shortly after the alleged incident.
The Special Assault Supervisor within the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office told NonStop Local that charges were not filed and are pending further investigation.
The supervisor said that the investigation is ongoing. After the completion of an investigation, a deputy prosecuting attorney will review the completed case file for a charging decision.
In short, Martinez still could face rape charges, but there is no case at this time.
There was no timeline provided for the investigation.
