SPOKANE, Wash. — A man was arrested after police say he violated a protection order, resulting in an hours-long standoff in Spokane Valley on Thursday.
On May 9, around 10:15 a.m., the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) confirmed deputies responded to the 12000 block of East Coyote Drive. The caller reported a man was in the home in violation of a domestic violence protection order.
“The served, signed, and valid Domestic Violence Order prohibits [the suspect] from entering or being within 1,000 feet of the residence and from contacting the victim in any way,” SCSO said.
SCSO said the victim was not home, but the suspect was inside, possibly intoxicated, making threats to harm himself and continuously contacting the victim.
Deputies learned the suspect had a felony warrant out for his arrest on charges of third-degree assault with a weapon.
The suspect’s refusal to surrender allowed deputies to obtain a search warrant. SCSO said the Warrant Service Group, Behavioral Health Unit, Crisis Negotiators and ASU were called to assist.
Deputies entered the home and found the suspect hiding in the kitchen pantry. K9 assisted in taking the man into custody.
The suspect was booked into the Spokane County Jail for eight counts of violating a domestic violence order of protection and his felony warrant.
