PYLLMAN, Wash. — The man accused of stabbing a 22-year-old in Pullman will now face charges of attempted murder.
Cesar Marmolejos, 38, was arrested on July 1 after a fight escalated into a stabbing at the Sunset Mart on Southeast Bishop Boulevard. When police arrived, they found two men fighting, with one man armed with a knife.
The 22-year-old was stabbed and was airlifted to Spokane, where he is expected to be released on July 2.
According to Pullman Radio News, updated court documents show that the Pullman Police Department (PPD) believes Marmolejos tried to kill the young man.
The victim told police that during the fight, Marmolejos said he was going to kill him. Marmolejos reportedly told police he was trying to stab him in the heart and was reaching for the gun that he usually carries.
Pullman Radio News said Marmolejos also told police that he and the victim had a long-standing dispute that started on social media.
Marmolejos admitted that he was jailed in Miami in 2016 for attempted murder. His formal criminal history out of Miami includes aggravated assault in 2009 and an aggravated battery charge in 2015. Both cases were dropped by South Florida authorities, according to Pullman Radio News.
Marmolejos was originally arrested on charges of first-degree assualt, which have been upgraded to second-degree attempted murder. He placed on a $750,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on July 5.
