SANDPOINT, Idaho — A driver police believe caused a crash that left a 5-year-old Deer Park girl dead in November has been arrested in connection to the girl’s death.
A press release from the Idaho State Patrol on Tuesday identified 61-year-old Rick Gross from Moyie Springs as the driver who attempted to pass multiple vehicles on US 95 near Elmira before colliding with a Ford Edge.

The girl who died, , was among those in the Ford Edge, along with her brother and mother.
A crash report written by the Idaho State Patrol called Gross’ maneuver to pass vehicles on the snowy and slushy roads “reckless” and said the move was the cause of the crash.
The release from the state patrol said investigators continued to gather evidence on the crash, asking for anyone with dash camera video or any other video of traffic along US 95 south of Bonners Ferry on Nov. 22 from 6:45-8:35 a.m. to share it with them by calling Trooper Travis Bucher at (208) 209-8620.
