NEWMAN LAKE, Wash. — A man is dead and a home is completely destroyed after a fire in Newman Lake on Tuesday.
According to the Newman Lake Fire Department (NLFD), crews responded to reports of a house fire just after 2 p.m. on April 30. When they arrived, they saw the home was fully engulfed and called for additional units.
NLFD said a body was found amidst the rubble, though the medical examiner has yet to conduct an evaluation.
At least 40 firefighters from Newman Lake, Hauser and Spokane Valley assisted fighting the blaze.
Newman Lake Fire Chief Daron Bement said the home is destroyed and is a pile of rubble.
While reports to firefighters indicated someone was inside the home, it is unclear if anyone was. The Spokane Valley Fire Department will conduct an investigation.
