SNOQUALMIE, Wash. — A man is dead after crews discovered a plane crash near Humpback Mountain, just west of Snoqualmie Pass.
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) confirmed the wreckage was found around 1:30 p.m. on May 20 in a heavily forested area. The pilot, 69-year-old Jerry Riedinger, was found dead inside the aircraft.
WSDOT said Riedinger left the Arlington Municipal Airport on May 19 at 4:30 p.m. His wife reported him missing around 6 p.m. when he did not arrive in Ephrata.
Based on flight and cell phone data, WSDOT Air Search and Rescue focused on Humpback Mountain off I-90. Over 220 people assisted in the search to find Riedinger.
“On behalf of the search and rescue team, WSDOT offers our sincere condolences to the entire Riedinger family,” WSDOT said. “WSDOT is thankful for those who provided their time or expertise during the search mission.”
The King County Sheriff’s Office will release additional updates.
