Man hits 2 kids in Kootenai County, arrested for DUI

KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho — A man was arrested after he hit two children while driving under the influence in Kootenai County on Saturday.

According to court documents, on March 16, Casey G. Marotta was driving on North 4th Street and East Birch Avenue when he hit two children.

When officers arrived on the scene, they saw two kids with serious injuries. One was taken to Kootenai Health by helicopter, where they stayed overnight for observation.

Court documents said Marotta admitted to looking down at his phone just before the crash and believed he was following the speed limit. According to court documents, he was going 35 in a 25.

Police located a nearby store with outdoor video cameras that were not functional. The store owner provided police with a hard drive of their security system, which has been set aside for evidence.

Marotta was arrested for felony DUI and was booked into the Kootenai County Jail.

Both children are home and sustain minor injuries.
