Man killed by truck in Spokane Valley

SPOKANE, Wash. – A 73-year-old man running across State Route 27 was hit by a truck Friday night.

According to Washington State Patrol, the man was running across the route near Valleyway Avenue when he was hit by the oncoming truck.

The man was sent to the hospital, where he died later Friday night.

According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, about 7,500 pedestrians were killed on the road in 2022.

A New York Times data analysis conducted the following year found that most pedestrian deaths take place at night, where it is difficult to see people who are not wearing bright or reflective clothing on the roadway.
