SPOKANE, Wash. – A man who went on a “violent criminal spree” and was sentenced to over 65 years in prison for charges related to intentionally trying to kill a police officer has now pleaded guilty to additional federal charges.
Ray Wynecoop pleaded guilty to drug trafficking, possession with intent to distribute, discharge of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The charges stem from two separate incidents involving Wynecoop. after leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen Dodge Charger.When police determined the chase was too dangerous, they backed off. Shortly after, Wynecoop crashed the car and fled the scene but was eventually arrested.When police searched the Charger, they found a loaded gun with a black laser mounted on it. In Wynecoop’s backpack, they found two more lasers, another gun, heroin and fentanyl.In 2022, police then reported that Wynecoop was involved in multiple drive-by shootings and even In his second offense in June 2022, Wynecoop and a passenger intentionally followed a Spokane Police officer and engaged in a shooting.A second unit arrived to assist the officer, but Wynecoop shot the officer in the head and leg while the passenger videotaped the incident.Police searched Wynecoop’s car after arresting him and found thousands of fentanyl pills, a small amount of heroin and other drug-related items.Wynecoop pleaded guilty to his charges in connection to the shooting and was sentenced to 65 years in prison.”The violence in this case is shocking. Mr. Wynecoop, a felon who was not allowed to possess firearms, went on a violent criminal spree that included a premeditated attempt to kill a police officer,” said U.S. Attorney Waldref.The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Spokane Police Department and the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. Wynecoop was initially , and his recent plea was in connection to his federal offenses.
