Man sentenced after shooting in Spokane’s Logan neighborhood leaves victim paralyzed

SPOKANE, Wash. — A man was sentenced to over a decade in prison after a shooting in Spokane’s Logan neighborhood that left one man paralyzed last year.

33-year-old Ryan Shaules pleaded guilty to first-degree assault with a deadly weapon on June 26. The plea agreement also included a resolution for three other cases, including possession of drugs and an illegal firearm.

On May 27, 2023, multiple people were involved in a shooting near East North Foothills Road and Hamilton Street. Spokane police arrived and located a victim with life-threatening injuries.

The shooting led to a standoff in Liberty Lake, where multiple people were arrested, and police found another victim with a gunshot wound.

According to our partners at The Spokesman-Review, one victim was left paralyzed.

The other suspects involved included Shaules’ teenage son, who pleaded guilty to first-degree assault with a deadly weapon last year and was sentenced to nine years in prison. Another teenage boy was also charged in the shooting.

Shaules will spend 13 years behind bars, followed by three years of probation.
