SPOKANE, Wash. – The man who died after four Spokane County Sherriff’s Office (SCSO) deputies shot and killed him was identified by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office on Wednesday.

Richard Rogissart, 55, died from multiple gunshot wounds. The cause of his death was listed as a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.

On Jan. 30, around 4:20 p.m., SCSO responded to the 6600 block of North Calispel Street for reports of a man attempting to assault their neighbor with a baton, threatening to kill them.

After an hours-long negotiation, SCSO said deputies breached the door to Rogissart’s home, where he then aggressed on them. SCSO confirmed shots were fired, and Rogissart was pronounced dead on the scene.

After this incident, the four deputies believed to have fired their weapons were placed on administrative leave.

The Spokane Independent Investigative Response Team is continuing to conduct this investigation.
