SPOKANE, Wash. — A now have an answer for their concerns, although at least one of those bikers doesn’t think it’s sufficient.
On Thursday, Maverik posted its response to a viral post written by biker Matt Cooper on Facebook, stating that an incident on Monday was the result of a miscommunication.
“We reached out to Matt and discussed this incident, which sadly occurred due to a miscommunication,” Maverik wrote on Facebook. “Maverik welcomes the biker community – and all customers – to visit our stores for a quick and convenient fuel-up as they head out on their adventures.”
Members of the American Rogue Zombies had planned a trip to support a local Girl Scouts and buy out their cookie supply when a stop along the way turned into an armed security incident.
The group planned for around 50 people to meet at the Maverik on Division. When they arrived, they were greeted by armed guards blocking all entrances to the gas station.
Cooper explained that this routine stop was typical for them — meeting up, fueling up, grabbing a couple of snacks and leaving. The armed security encounter came as a shock to the group.
Cooper felt that Maverik’s response on Thursday wasn’t convincing.
“It’s pretty hard to miscommunicate your way into armed security shutting off the whole business,” he said. “However, the representatives of Maverik that I spoke to were very understanding and are committed to working through this to provide a better experience for bikers.”
