SPOKANE, Wash. – Mayor Lisa Brown joined the Spokane Police Department Tuesday night to celebrate the National Night Out Against Crime.

Brown expressed her gratitude for the event via social media.

“Happy National Night Out Against Crime! I had a great time connecting with residents in south Spokane,” Brown said.

According to (COPS), the night is meant to promote public safety awareness.

“The best way to build a safer community is to know your neighbor and your surroundings,” COPS’s website said.

The national organization promoting the awareness event, National Night Out (NNO), says that it hopes to strengthen bonds between law enforcement agencies and those they serve.

“National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances,” NNO said.
